The ENV rear end in the 1953 PV that I'm working on, seems to be free wheeling! After removing the brake drums today, when I rotate either axle shaft, the drive shaft does not rotate. This is my first experience with an ENV differential, but I seem to recall somebody warning me about similar problems, when the locking pin sheers. Has anyone experienced this symptom?
I did have to exert a lot of force to remove one of the drums. It appears that the PO did not install the axle key and when I had this towed 75 miles, the drum must have rotated, heating up and seizing the drum! Also, this car has not been driven for at least 20 years, but was stored inside and out of the elements.
Am I over reacting or should I tear the ENV apart?
