Hi everyone,
I took the V90 out of the garage today so that we could move a new wood stove in. The V90 hadn't been running in about a month. I turned the key, let the fuel pump run and then turned to start. It fired up as if it had been running earlier in the day and idled as smooth as silk :) I let it idle for maybe 30 seconds and then shifted to reverse. It didn't want to move easily, but I just figured there was a little rust on the rotors as I had put it in the garage right after it had been washed. So I gave it a little throttle and when the brakes came loose I heard a nasty clunk/clang sound from the driver's side rear wheel :( Then there was a nasty scraping sound wheather I drove forward or backward. I backed it out and pulled forward far enough to get it out of the way. When I got out I found a trail of rust and a chunk of metal lieing on the gound. Agh! Anyway, after we moved the stove inside, I jacked up the V90 where it sat and removed the rear wheel. As I had expected something happened with the park brake and the shoe had taken some considerable chunks out of the inside of the rotor :( I removed the park brake shoes and components and reinstalled the rotor, caliper and wheel. I took her for a short drive up the driveway and then put her back in the garage. Anyway, I just wanted to tell this little story to remind everyone to make sure their park brake system is in good repair and functioning properly. I haven't had the car long and I knew it needed new cables (I have them), but I didn't realize there was an internal problem with the park brake. I'm certainly happy the park brake works well on my 964! Oh well, at least I've got all winter to fix the V90 :) And I must say it feels good just to sit in that car!
