I think that I need to repalce the catalytic converter on my 1988 244. I thought I was hearing some noise from it, and I had my shop look at it, and I was told that their was maybe a small crack, and that it would be okay for awhile. The answer surprised me. I trust the mechanic as he is very honest, but I'm wondering about the consequences of letting it ride for a while. Is this something that I wait unitl it gets worse, or just repalce it now. I was a little surprised that he did not want to repalce it, as I saw one sitting on his shelf. I'm glad that he was conservative about spending my money, but I don't want to rust out the bottom of my car, or shortone the life of my self, or anyone else. Thanks for any information and happy bricking. As I'm not totally loaded with money, I'm not complaining about a very slight leak that I hear, I just don't want to casue any damage. I'm I worrying to much, or is my mechanic too layed back?
If I repalce it, what is the best way to go? I saw that IPD sold an Economy replacment. Uhh, I would like to put something on the car that would last another 175k if I replace it. Is their an equivilent to the factory cat, or do I need to go to the stealor? Also, why can't you buy one of a junk car? It seems like if it is in better shape then the one that is alreay on a running car it should be okay.
Thanks for any information and happy bricking.
