Took my younger son to driving test this morning. (He failed his road test BTW but I won't go into that.) We arrived early and saw there was no line at the vehicle inspection station. The 940 wagon was due so we took her in for inspection.
I kind of knew if she fails the inspections it will be emissions and it will be high NOx. There were no surprises.
The only item she failed was NOx, at 1,226 versus 937 allowed. Everything else passed. The HC and CO numbers were low. High ignition temperature burned the HC and CO clean I guess.
Two years ago this time, the car failed exactly the same item. I did jump through hoops to make it pass. Initially I replaced the complete exhaust from the header down. The exhaust was old so I thought why not. Then I did an after market O2 sensor. Finally it was an OEM O2 sensor which brought the NOx numbers in line.
The wagon does not have EGR, BTW.
Does the O2 sensor go bad in two years? Help is appreciated.
