I've been looking at a used 1992 960 with about 104k miles on the clock. It seems clean and runs fairly well to a lay person such as myself, but after reading some info from volvoclub.org.uk, I'm considering walking away.
From leaky rear main seals to leaky engine blocks, they give every indication that this model is a POS and is expensive to fix also.
I'd like to hear it from those who know whether I should just forget about it and buy a honda or go get that wagon.
I'm not afraid to do some repairs on my own, but I don't to have to make friends with the tow truck driver for buying this car.
It presents well with no oil stains where it is parked, idles smoothly and accelerates well. The only thing I noticed was a little shimmy when I nailed the gas. I've heard that the diff has problems locking and unlocking sometimes and perhaps this is a symptom. Also, the passenger window can be put down with the driver-side controls, but not up. The last point of notice is a bit of shimmy when braking which seems to indicate warped rotors or unbalanced tires.
I'd love your (informed) opinions!
