New for the FAQ... Relays and intermittent problems 700

This is old news to me and many others about the 'Board', But it got me again.
My old 86 diesel bugged me with the occasional failing rear wiper. By chance I found the delay relay that was failing and found that the solder joints in the relay had just jiggled too many times and had let go. I had found them and resoldered them and went on about business.
This too has happened to me, with much frustration, concerning an intermittent shut-down of the engine.

I thought it was a stall, but nOOOOOOO, it was a shut down.
Sometimes when the key was turned on I didn't hear the whine of the fuel pump.
Every time I didn't hear the whine of the fuel pump, the car wouldn't start.

I pulled the fuel pump relay and opened it and found a few solder joints cracked.
(this was under a good lens)
I also had a bum rear wiper,as in my '86 diesel,so I pulled it's relay and soldered a few bum joints there.
My '92 gas model 745 is a way more PITA than my '86 diesel.
Relays fail the same way in any early model vehicle.
Keep this in mind when you have intermittent problems.

Have fun, and share the knowledge. ED7
Best to be thought an idiot than to open your mouth.
