Extreme dusty conditions have caused poor starts 700

I took my 91 740 to a dirty, dirty campgroud (we couldn't breathe and the dash board is now light brown) and now she won't start very well. After I turn the key the starter works, but the engine won't start running for about 30 seconds - I can speed this time up if I give her gas while turning the key, but I don't know if that's the best thing to do. Any leads on how this could be fixed?
