Folks,
How do I get the ABS sensor ring off the front wheel hub? I have the front brake calipers and disks off. Removed the wheel bearing nuts (36mm in case anyone is interested) and have the hubs on the bench. Should I just bring the hubs into a shop to get the rings pressed off? I don't want to do too much hammering.
The ABS sensor ring is rusted to the point that the grooves are no longer square so I bought a new set of rings. Hopefully this will bring the ABS back to life. A couple of years ago, I tried cleaning and filing the grooves, and cleaning the sensors but the ABS is still erratic. We will see if the rings are the issue ... if I can get the old rings off and the new ones pressed on.
Oh, and the inner bearing race dropped out on one hub and I can't seem to get it back in. So I gently pulled on the inner race of the second hub to see what is going on and found that it easily slid out. But it won't slip back in either! Doh! I suspect the ball bearings are spring loaded. Do I need a special tool to retract the ball bearings or will a sharp smack do the trick?
I checked the FAQ and did a forum search but could find no help there. Thanks in advance.
