Help!! is there a way to get this dam belt on?? 900

Ive tried for 3 hrs to get the ac condensor drive belt back on my 940 945. I have the correct belt and have loosened the front back 13mm bolts for the slide rail and the front 10mm bolt. Still cant get the new belt on. Should I remove one of the mounting bolts on the compressor?? If so which one. There has to be a trick here guys. The other 2 belts wwere very easy. Thanks JOHN

    John,

own two 95 940s, a sedan and wagon, changed belts several times. As others posted, after loosening mounting bolts, unscrew tensioner all the way, and gently pry compressor toward engine with 2x4 or other soft wood. Then, as posted, put belt on compressor pulley and get it started on the crank pulley. Turn the crank and the belt will gradually slide into the pulley groove. Granted, it is a tight fit, but it will go on.

    good luck

Sounds like all the adjusting bolts are loosened all the way.
Put the belt on the smallest pulleys first, and work it around the largest last.
It's always worked for me, without dismantling the whole assembly.

That belt will always be hard to slip on, it seems that you cannot lossen the compressor enough. What I do is start the belt over the pulley then rotate the engine with a socket wrench on the bottom crank pulley, the belt will ride up and over the compressor pulley quite easily as you turn the engine.

I have about another 3/4 to move the compressor in the inner and outer bracket towards the engine and im sure then I can slip the belt on. However I have tried moving the f------ compressor from below (no splash pan and from above). I dont want to puncture the compressor housing by wedging a piece of wood between the side firewall and the compressor. I tried gently a piece of wood to move it and no go. Please guys i know someone out there has a suggestion?? JOHN

My 940 turbo has two bolts front and rear, plus an adjusting screw. I had to adjust the adjusting screw way out, it was a lot of turns, but I finally got the belt off. I had to wedge a lever between the compressor and the frame of my car.

      Yep... two bolts.

I recall that back bolt was hard to reach I think.

Once all the bolts are loosened, the compressor ought to move with a little leverage from a 2 x 4.
