Start, no start 200

Hello everyone. I have an 82 242 GLT that's been running great for the last few months. Just recently it has been acting funny when I go to start it. Sometimes when I turn the key there is no power. No lights on the dash, power locks don't work, starter, nothing. If I wait for a few minutes the power will come back on. I switched out the batteries, charged the car overnight. I still have the same problem. I will try a new battery, but it seems like a bad connection. I checked the connections at the battery. Seems good. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

I have an 81 242 and experienced a similar problem. I traced it to a connection from the battery to some blade connections, relays, and other stuff on the driverside fender under the hood.

From the positive battery terminal, there are 2 leads. The smaller one goes to the inside of the fender - that is where the connection was bad. This is about where I imagine the infamous 25 amp fuse would be located, but I don't think I have one. I slid a plastic cover up and found the weak blade connection. I sanded the contacts, used a little dielectric grease, and pinchhed the female end a little tighter - no more problems.

I'm away from my car until tomorrow afternoon, but if you want one I can send you a picture at that time.

Hows the battery cables? A lot of times it's not the battery, or the connections, but the battery cables themselves...

    Also, possibly the wiring harness?

    Good luck!
