Plastic trim bottom of door 200 1989

Hello Bricksters,

The large plastic trim at the bottom of my passenger side rear door is starting to peel off. It seems that a small plastic stud that used to hold it snug and fit against the door broke off. At first only the edge was off, now it is gradually peeling off.

How can I put it back nice and tight against the door? Glue it?

Take the whole thing off and buy a new one?

Any tips are appreciated.

Many thanks.

When I've pulled these in the junkyard I came to the conclusion the nub, though it may have once had useful barbs, did not serve to do much more than locate the trim in the right spot. The tape holds it to the door.

Thank you Art. I'll go to my local office supply store and get some 3M double sided tape.

That tape may not be in the office supply store. It is marketed specifically for automotive trim (molding), so you might find it in an automotive parts or paint store. I find it in the Wally Mart, and even there, it is not cheap. Someone found they could save some money getting the 1" width and splitting it, as this job takes just over one roll of the 1/2" width.

The secret to success here is in the cleaning and prep.

I don't know if this is the 3m product, but you can get 15ft of molding tape for $8.

Alternatively there's a large range of trim adhesives, and a 3M product for reattaching items with the foam tape already on - it's just the sticky membrane.
