Morning Start S90-V90 1997

1997 V90 - 127K....About half the time the car won't start on the first try in the morning. It will sputter for about a second and then stall. It always starts on the second try, runs fine and has no other starting problems the rest of the day. The car is garaged and PO replaced plugs about 3K ago, don't know kind or condition. Thoughts?

Thanks!
Bob W.

    Hi,

I can't say this is the solution, but my friend was having the same exact problem in his land cruiser, andother friend had it in her mazda 323, and I know a person (Honda Accord) called a similar problem into Car Talk a year or so ago.

All three were the fuel relay. Might want to look into that if nothing else pans out for you.

I run into the same condition, mostly puts more wear on the starter. Seems to come and go. Will behave like that for a week or two than go away for awhile. Generally the car runs fine otherwise.

On a 240, I'd say that the problem is the check valve just following the main fuel pump. Pressure is bleeding back overnight, and the 2 or 3 attempts in the AM pump it back to normal.

    Good Luck,

    Bob
