I just ordered a set of sheepskin covers for my 81 240. I can't seem to be able to remove the headrests. Can any of you fellow volvo owners shine some light?..

Feel with your hand at the back of the backrest. A few inches below each of the two bases you will find the plastic lock mechanism. Press to release. This is what they look like under the cover (picture courtesy Tony Hoffmann):

It will. Or rather, on the backside there is no upholstery as such under the cover. This is the only way to remove the headrests without removing the seatcovers first.
