Speaking of motor mounts 444-544

I seem to remember that an upgrade to motor mounts was to use the 164 motor mount with its bonded-in steel pad.

Is this still a valid upgrade for 544s?

Bob

Well, it's a bit of an issue on a 544. The original style motor mounts are rather short, and the 164 mounts (or any 120/1800/140 mount as well) are about an inch or slightly more taller. This lifts the front of the engine by that much, and it also extends the bottom of the mount to the side farther. I have a pair in my car to help handle the extra power, but it isn't a really good fit. I actually need to do something to lower it back down a little - my bellhousing is bumping the transmission tunnel on hard starts now.

John
Do you mean that the 164 motor mt cushion is taller than 544 cushion, or the combination with the later aluminum mounts off the side of the block.

The mount itself is taller. I'm using it with the 544 brackets. Later model brackets are angled backwards and won't work well at all with the vertical mount on the crossmember.

Use the steel mount thats welded to the 140 164 crossmember weld that to the 544 cross member with the aluminum mount from the 144 and the 164 rubber mounts worked for me! Richard

I'm using the stock 544 transmission mounts, and I don't think it would like the rearward push. Maybe if the bushing was rotated slightly...

I assume you mean motor mounts. If so, you might give Swedish Treasures a call. The are not too far away from you in Fayetteville, NY at 866-637-3840

Nah - he probably means the brackets that go between the motor mounts and the block. The PV orients the mounts vertically, unlike the slanted rearward 120 (wide) and 140 (narrow) mounts.

Hopefully someone with a parts car or access toone can get you a set. Both mine had stress cracks on them - I had to weld on them a little when I put my engine back in recently.
