Have 93 240 and need to replace the alternator's voltage regulator and brushes. I took off the exhaust heat shield, removed the old Combo pack (2 phillips head screws). PROBLEM - I could not put in new combo pack. The problem seems to be that the brushes have to be pushed down to get them and the regulator into the alternator. As any one know who reads this, you cannot see what you are doing. How do I get the new combo pack in??

I tried pulling the alternator so I could see what I'm doing, but the nut to the top bolt is rounded, and I cannot get a grip on it.

I found it easier to replace the regulator from underneath. Drop the splash pan and work from there.

Well happy father's day to ya. There is a little bit of a trick to it but it really is just a feel thing. You kind of angle the brush holder in and get one screw started and then use that screw to pivot it down into position for the other screw.

Mark - Is the screw you do first the one closest or furthest from the block??

You know I do it either way. All you need to do is get one in so you can pivot it up or down either way. If I was going to actually try to get one in over the other I would shoot for the lower one, I guess that would be closer to the block.
