problems with starter 140-160

I just recently started having problems with the starter motor not engaging (a fast clicking sound until the battery dies). I replaced the basically new starter right away (same one), and it still does it! I really do not know what to do, other than look to see if the teeth on the flywheel are worn (they don't look to be)Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    problems with starter 140-160

The problem with jump starting is if you dont have host engine running you will have two half flat batteries due to equalisation. Its always best to exchange dead battery with known good one. Your symptoms are typically run down battery. Regards Jack McIntyre.

Sounds like your battery has less than 10 volts stored. Charge it or try a jump start from a good battery to verify.

    Bad battery connections 140-160 1968

If it clicks only and the battery dies from that, the battery is very low to begin with.

Make sure your battery terminals are clean and grounded properly. There is also a junction connector from the smaller red wire to the positive battery post. This 4-way connector gets corroded and needs occasional checking and cleaning.

It can also be a bad grounding strap.

It the starter clicks at all, it's probably not the ignition switch. I just checked this myself.

It's assuredly not your ring gear.
