Hi everybody! New to this site and it look's grate!I just bought my 4th Volvo, 740 GLE Sdn 1985, 92k Miles.I cleaned out the engine compartment, degreser and power wash, and now the engine only runs on idling. When I get close to the accelerator it dies off. Please let me know what I am missing. Note: 85 means that there are a lot of wires that are bare, dried out, but I don't know how bad they are inside their plastic shielding? I am thinking of ev shorts....

had the same identical issue in my 88.

After tons of diagnostics, i swapped the MAFs and it ran fine.

Disassembled the old maf (peeled the plastic cover off) and found the maf internals were filled with water.

Car runs fine now.

Looks like you have a common wire harness problem. See: www.bartonharness.com/volvoharnesses.html The best thing for you to do would be to replace the engine wireing harness.

Take your distributor cap off and dry it out.

Thank you Robert. I have replaced the whole ignition modul + new Rotor and distributorcup. No improvments! I am looking at replacing all wiring etc. I have tested /replaced everything els!
