Manual Transmission Swap 200

Sorry to burden you guys with another trans question. Thanks Dave for your last reply about the automatic. My question is, will a manual m46 with overdrive bolt in an 85 240 that has an automatic and an 88 engine? We found a low milage m46 for my friends car in a wrecked 86. I guess we need the driveshaft for the swap? Is the wiring for the o/d similar to the auto? Is the linkage difficult to swap over?

I did the same swap several month ago. The other thing that you will have to do
is put in a jumper wire to replace the netural safety switch,it will be the blue connector at the drivers right leg.I hope that you got a older M46 because the gear ratio is different for first gear.Take your time and do the swap right it's worth it.
    Thanks
    Rodney

It's not that big of a deal especially since you are not dealing with the LH 2.4 speed sensor that is at the top of the bell housing. 88 should be the last year for 2.2. If you have found one in the bone yard then you should have all of what you need. Your biggest hassle will be putting in the new clutch pedal assembly. The linkage is no problem just make sure that you get all of it with the old trans. When you remove the shifter bucket and all of it's parts and pieces from the auto-dog the hole in the floor will accomodate the M46 linkage and shifter. The harness is a little busier on the M46 in that instead of just the OD wire running down to the solenoid you have the solenoid, 4th gear switch, and reverse light switch to accomodate now. You will have to run the harness to the relay and up to the insrument cluster for the OD or 5th gear light. As you figured you will need the drive shaft too, I think you might be able to get away with just the front half of the shaft but if the price is all the same at the bone yard then just bring the whole thing home with you.
