How to remove power window switches? 200 1989

I need to clean up contacts on power window switches.
How do I remove the switch to get at it?

I got as far as getting the switch block out of the driver's arm rest.
Can't see how to remove the switch itself from the switch block.
I'll also be cleaning up the switches in the two rear doors.

I looked in the FAQs and did a search on 200-series posts, but found nothing on this - it must be very simple and so hasn't been written up!
Thanks in advance.

repairing / cleaning switches? don't forget the bag 200 1989

For disassembly of small items with spring-loaded fugacious parts, doing the critical part of the procedure inside a transparent drycleaner bag saves a lot of searching the shop floor or panning the carpet sweepings for springs, ball-bearings, and "#%&* clips".

How to remove power window switches? 200 1989

I have done this recently and it is so simple that I can't even remember it well enough to describe. The point being it should be obvious. Disconnect the wiring and look at it from the underside.
You can see on the pic that the bottom part of the assembly sticks out a little on the short sides. Like I said, I forget what holds it in but I think it's just plastic tabs or the like that are part of the larger block that need to be pried out of the way. Be careful not to break them.

But the thing to watch out for is when you separate the top and bottom parts. There is a spring, ball and rocker inside. Take the switch apart carefully so they don't get away from you.
I cleaned up the driver's window switch on my wagon and it was better but still hesitant at times. I finally swapped it for switch from the rear left door since it hadn't seen much use.
What I really need to do is take the door panels off and clean and lube all parts of the mechanism. Dave Shannon offers more info on that subject at http://www.homestead.com/volvo2/elecdoor.html if you're interested.

Leave switch block in door. Use a very small flat screwdriver and pry up delicately under the switch itself. As you said - easy!!

      Thanks -
True - it popped right up with a small flat blade.

I will still need to remove the armrest though, to get th34 switch back in - the multi-pin female connector floats freely inside the armrest cavity, so that popping the switch back in doesn't hook up the connector. No biggie.

I was able to revive one switch by firming up the contact surface on the multi-pin connector. I used a small blade between the female contact and the tubular plastic housing to force the tube back into a smaller diameter, plus electrical cleaner on all connector contacts. Next time I think I'll try a pair of pliers squeezing outside the female connector, that might be better still.
