OLD LSD LATE MDL 244 200

I got lucky with an 83 T that I purchased for parts it has a LSD. What type of LSD is this and can it effectivly be rebuilt if needed. Other than the speedo issue will this LSD mate to 93 half shafts/housing or will I need the whole rear. How hard is it to adapt the 93 speedo system?

Thanks

Its mostly likely a Dana Power Lok. Removing the carrier rebuilding and
re-installing in the same housing is fairly easy. To put the unit in a different axle housing requires re-shimming which is more involved. It wouldn't fit into you 1993 axle which is an Eaton 1041 locker vs the earlier Dana 1030/1. Your 1993 also has a gear in the axle that is used for the ABS and speedo.

I don't think the 240 series used the 1041 rear axle.

In 1992 and 1993 they did.

It is a clutch type LSD, and probably made by Dana. To use it in your late car, you'd need to have the tone ring from the late carrier installed on the LSD carrrier. That is not a small task, and best left up to a 4x4 shop that does them regularly.

You might want to ask this question on the Turbobricks forum. It is a very popular swap with that bunch o' hooligans (j/k!).

Wanna' sell it?
