Front Seat Adjusters? 120-130

I've got two sets of amazon seats. The set in the car have headrests but poor upholstery. the spare set have nice upholstery, but no headrests. The issue is that all four seats have the standard volvo adjustment knob, but both the headrest-less seats (from a 122 sedan), and the headrest equiped seatscannot be adusted forward or backwards more than a degree or two. It's quite uncomfortable and I'm not sure if they are *all* broken, or this was an intentional design feature.

The side brackets look just like the ones in a 140. If they are not meant to be adjustable, could I grab a set from a 140 and install those?

Jack,

If the nice, but headrestless seats are '65 or later, they should have the headrest mounting hardware inside, so you could mount the headrests in the seats with the good upholstery.

While you're in there, you may as well refurbish and lubricate the seat adjustment mechanism, to allow the knob to turn as intended, thru the range of adjustment.

I figure I could switch upholster if I wanted, but the seatback adjustment is the biggest issue. I feel like both are trying to tip me back into he rear seat. So they *should* be fully adjustable forward and back like a standard volvo seat? Meaning that all four seats are siezed up?

The seats in my '68 220 are headrest equipped and "recline" about 2-3" as measured at the top of the seat. The seats have never reclined more than that since the car was new. I find it uncomfortable as well and prefer to have the seatback at more of an angle but haven't come up with a good solution. There's no doubt one out there though.

Always figured it was that way by design for the wagons and the 4dr. sedans.

The "rake" of the seat was intended to be adjusted at the mounts under the seats. The amout the seat back adjusted was for "fine-tuning."

I set mine in the lowest rear mount (highest hole in bracket) and boosted the front up at the stud mount. Very comfortable and nice leg support that way.

The standard seat for middle and late-60s Amazons did not have a lot of travel of the backrest angle, maybe 30-40 degrees. The 123GT seats would fold almost flat, like Recaro seats. Similarly there was not a lot of sliding forward/aft movement of the seat itself, a matter of maybe 6-8 inches (others please correct me if I'm wrong).

There have been threads before about installing headrests into the pre-drilled holes that you should be able to feel through the vinyl on the top of your seats.

Well, the tan set w/o headrests adjust only a couple of inches, so I guess those are "good" the ones in the car (which I belive are original judging by the upholstery color and car trim color), do not adjust at all and are probably siezed up.

So, my original question remains, can I grab the adjusters off a 140 series and bolts them to my 122 seat frames and pads?

Volvo made an accessory seat back adjuster that was referred to in the note above dealing with the 123GT. Those adjusters were also used on 1800s. Theyre easy to spot on a car as they are chrome.
