242 flathood grill 200

My newest acquisition is a 1980 242 with a flathood that I bought at an auction for $140.00. It has the paperwork to verify a new engine with 39000 on it and 15000 on the tranny. It wouldn't start at the auction and had 3 flat tires and a bent control arm. I adjusted the lockout on the shifter and it started right up, needs a minor tune but otherwise sounds pretty good and is a quick runner now that the control arm has been replaced. I already had an extra set of virgos to put on. The interior is faded, but only needed armrests. Documentation from previous owner show many new parts including the fan motor. My wife has been wanting one of these since we started to collect Volvos. My question is, where would I find a grill to fit quad headlights? The only spare grill I had sticks out too far because it wasn't from a flathood. My local parts yard has a lot of Volvos, but not the correct hood. Anybody know where I can locate one? I live close to Portland, Ore. TIA, Bob

That hood was standard with all pre 81 240's. In reality, the '83 Flathood simply took the older hood plus a unique grill. For headlights, there are actually e spec lights available but rare. I have a set in storage but unfortunately, they are for left hand driving. Right hand versions must have been made but I never saw a pair. there is an interesting photo in Rolling (VCOA pub) that shows a 122 rally car in competition. When the cars came over to the continent from Sweden (which was left hand at the time) a strategically placed piece of tape prevented the high right glare.

Flat hood ... not flathood; it's not a homolagated '83 242T.

Anyways, buy a grill off a pre-'77 that had the flat hood and trim it down to size. Some ingenuity and/or zip ties will do the trick in holding it into place.
