Michelin Agilis tires for 245? 200 1991

Looking to replace tires on '91 245. The spec tire for the 240 Wagon is 185/R14. Vehicle currently has P195/75R14. While pursuing the OEM size, I found what many of you have already found: 185/R14 has limited availability choices nowadays. Kelly makes them, Cooper makes them, I believe that Capital Tire makes them. I've had good experience with Michelin tires -- yet Michelin indicates that they don't have an OEM tire fit for the 245.

Now, I would like to purchase tires from the local Costco but Costco will not put on P195/75R14 or any other substitution, only OEM size. On the other hand, Costco has indicated that they can provide a Michelin called "Agilis" in size 185/R14.

Sure enough, Michelin's web site does show the Agilis in a 185/R14 size. It indicates that the Agilis is manufactured in their European plant and is designed for light van commerical applications.

My question is: Anyone running the Michelin Agilis? If so, what's been your experience? This tire meets (actually exceeds) the load capacity rating of the wagon, yet the tire detail does not include ratings on how quiet the tire rides, traction, etc., as they do with passenger tires.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Michelin Agilis tires for 245? 200 1991

I have a 244 and just put the 195r14 Michelin radial X that they sell at Sams Club and Coscto. I've only driven on them for 2 days but WOW what a nice tire. Very little rode noise and handles better than my old Firestone tires. (not like that is a shocker)

Just my 2 cents

Good luck

Hey Mech -

What did that rubber set you back? I've got a '90 245 that will be due soon.

They were 63.00 a piece. I mounted and balanced them my self so I didn't have to pay all the other fees that come with them. Also if you look on the Michelin web site there are offering a $50 rebate card for the purchase of 4 michelins.

Is it best to run 195/75 14 tires at the same pressures? 200 1991

I've seen much discussion on overall diameter (which is important) but haven't found any info on what pressures to use - did you get any advice? Does the change in tire size make a difference relative to the weight of the vehicle?

Not sure what you mean "relative to the weight".... I put 34 psi in. The max load is 35. I don't carry that much crap in my car .....YET.... In 3 weeks I'm going from Mobile AL. to Port Angeles WA. In my 89, 244.

The main things I have noticed about these tires are: little to zero road noise. Steering seems smoother. Don't feel the bumps in the road as much,(I have poly's all-around).

Right now ( I've only had them for a week) for the price it is a great tire. I don't think you can go wrong with a Michelin.....except for the Allegro....I haven't heard good things about them.

As far as I know the width of the tire doesn't make your speedometer chance readings. Its the height of the tire from rim to tread. If you have 15 in. wheels then you may want to go with 60 or 65's R15. To Make up for the extra wheel diameter.

There are plenty of people on the board that know a heck of alot more than I on the tire issue. either do a search or post a new question. However everyone likes to talk tires, so get ready for alot of different replies.

Good Luck
