These are the pictures that we said that we would post on the M43A
transmission.I know what I've been told over the years that there is no such
transmission. You make the decision for yourself

    It's a regular old M41 with J-type overdrive and top cover to suit an 1800E/ES, later 140-series, or '75 U.S. market 240.

I have one on the shop floor right now that says L30 where yours says M43A. Probably a casting lot number identifying that particular batch of gearbox cases, and purely a coincidence that it happens to start with M4...

The ID plate should be on the bottom rear of the gearbox, just forward of the mount. I've seen variations on the M41 designation there too, but that really is what you've got.

The M40 case I have in my garage says D141 there.

Yep we cleaned the grease off the bottom of the transmission and it is
a M41.It is just weird that the case would say M43 and the transmissions
        are fourty series.

I think that is just a casting lot number. In your case it just happened to start with 'M4'. Many of the numbers cast into car parts have little intrinsic meaning unless you have the production lists to refer to.
