1989 VOLVO WAGON ACCIDENT 140-160 1989

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 1989 240 VOLVO WAGON AND GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT,
THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS HURT. SHE WAS T-BONED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR BUMBER, NOT SURE IF I WILL HAVE TO SCRAP THE CAR. After the accident WHEN I TRY AND START THE CAR NO RESPONSE FROM THE IGNITION AND STARTER, DASH IDIOT LIGHTS COME ON, BUT NOT EVEN A CLICK. IS THERE SOME KIND OF ELECTRICAL SHUT OFF SWITCH WHEN THESE CARS GET HIT IN THE REAR?
PLEASE ADVISE AND THANKS.

You might get more suggestions on the 200 forum 140-160 1989

Hi. I agree with the others that Volvo doesn't use an impact fuel pump cut-off switch on their 240's.
But this forum is for the 140-164 models'. You might get more advice if you reposted this on the 200 (i.e., the 240's) forum instead.
Regards,

1989 VOLVO WAGON ACCIDENT 140-160 1989

Depending on how hard the car was hit, the P/N switch sounds like a good place to start. Also check the wiring at the starter and make sure they are all still plugged in.

Volvo does not use a cutoff switch. Probable broken motor mounts, trans linkage bent, neutral/park switch not allowing start. Try moving the shifter back and forth. Also could have knocked the shifter pin out of the sliding switch under the shifter cover for the neutral/park switch.

1989 VOLVO WAGON ACCIDENT 140-160 1989

Hi,
Actually I have no idea, but I will hazard a guess that there is somesort of cut off switch hooked into the electric fuel pump to avoid pumping gas whenit senses a hit.
again, only a guess.
