Demise of favorite Portland area junkyard 120-130

Another birthday yesterday, decided to celebrate by participating in my favorite activities, one of which is looking for parts at the local junkyard.

Battleground Auto Wrecking had always been one of my favorite sources. Located about a half hour north of Portland, the place was in a beautiful setting out in the country, surrounded by forest. Always heard birds chirping, usually would see rabbits hopping around. 3 122's there and 3 or 4 140's last time I visited.

Although the place was usually crowded when I was there, Richard, the person who ran it, always made time to patiently answer my questions. When he had time, we would talk about whatever. A real nice guy, easy to talk with, and extremely fair with the prices. I always enjoyed going there and pulling the parts, a pleasant escape from reality.

Once I ran out of cash, no problem, just bring the $ next time I show up. My best score was a mint condition rubber trunk mat for my 122 sedan, only $5. I always looked forward to going there.

Anyways, went there yesterday to start the treasure hunt. Richard is gone, the owner is there. I ask if there are any more vintage Volvos in the yard. "No, nothing new. What do you want off them?" I start to mention a few things, when he bluntly cut's me off and says the cars interiors were stripped, and "nothing is available." He won't look me in the eye, I'm starting to get some negative vibes, I don't want to deal with this guy anymore.

I ask if Richard is there today, and am told he hasn't been there since January. I ask about exterior parts, and now am told the cars were sent to the crusher! That's much worse than a stripped interior.

He then says if he had any chrome trim, he wouldn't sell it anyways. What's up with this guy? I sadly realize I won't be visiting Battleground Auto Wrecking ever again. It's time to get out of there. As I walk to my car, I notice there are no birds chirping, and I'm the only car in the parking lot. End of chapter.

Damn. 120-130

That sucks! Shayne was telling me about that place, and I kept forgetting the name of it... So I never got to go and check it out! And now I guess it's pointless too. Damn... :-\

We (co-worker Jeremy and I) had only been out there once. Richard gave us a great deal on a bunch o' 140 stuff.
Bummer, it had been a long time since I'd seen an Amazon in a wrecking yard.
Funny, one of them was one I used to work on. Kind of a sign that I'm getting old. It was still wearing the aftermarket mirrors that I pulled from my very, very first Amazon-sniff.
Hope that dash fire wasn't something I did! :oO
