car keeps dieing 1989 740 non turbo 700

I have had this problem now for some time the car is hard to start it even killed the batt. today after it starts it will run for a few mins then quits. I have noticed it almost starts when I let the key go from the start position to run!! Or it will finally start when I've aBOUT run the batt. down. I have already replaced everything Its not the rsr, its not the fpr, its not the rpm sensor its not the tps, its not the coolant temp sensor, its not fuel pump or prepump, not the coil, not the engine wire harness, not the ecm, The only things I have not changed are the amm and the ICM. Help!!! I running out of time and $$$

A poster in the 700/900 forum not long ago had similar symptoms and solved the problem with new spark plug wires. Check the dizzy cap too. Coupla more, make sure the T-belt didn’t skip a bunch of teeth and make sure the cam pulley indexing pin didn’t shear. Look at the fuel pump relay one more time. I’m not the only one that put in a new one that failed very quickly.

Thank you but the timing is perfect and I have replaced the fpr with more than just one I've tried 5 I have alot of parts and other Volvo's which run. I think if the wires were bad it would run like shit right off. Besides there solid core wires (real hard wire multi strand). Thanks any way

Does it start when you unplug the AMM? Sounds like classic AMM failure behavior...

Good luck!

I don't think so I was taught that with a unplugged amm no Volvo will start. But after it has started it will run but with the same results. I guess I should try another amm. Thank you Chuck
