How to best identify a non-original rad to replace the one in my 89 240.
All Blackstone? Do they all say blackstone on the top (like on my 240) ?
Or course, if metal sides it is non-orig. Looking for some revolutionary pointers... thanks.

I'm not sure how old my radiator is... I believe it is original. No Blacksone name anywhere. However, it has a Volvo sticker on top and if I remember correctly the last 2 numbers on the sticker are 89. My car was built in Nov. 89.

Can anyone help? BTW - I am considering replacing it this spring since my water pump is leaking and it probably makes sense to do both.

Look for a date stamp in the plastic, upper right or upper left side of radiator.

I'm trying to determine the age of a volvo blackstone radiator. It's in a '89 245 wagon. The code on the left side is 8 and on the right is 2.

Look for the date code stamped on the black plastic end tank near the upper radiator hose - that is the hose to the thermostat housing on the driver's side.

It looks like a clock -- circle with numbers 12, 3, 6, 9 around the perimeter.
The year stamp (for example 89) is inside this circle. I believe that the arrow or line which points to the circle represents the month manufactured (for example 12).

The same stamp is also on the other side (passenger side) of the radiator but is down further and a bit harder to see. Easier to locate near upper radiator hose as indicated.

Checked those spots, the radiator is indeed a 1989. Must be a Blackstone if it's lasted this long!!

does not pour water on the ground as fast as you pour it in, likely not original.

Sorry but I can't let this one go by. The Blackstone in my 85 245 lasted 18 years before the plastic neck cracked. The longevity is much better than some have experienced with the all metal radiators including the brand name Nissens. Aluminium is better for heat transfer and the quality of the Blackstone unsurpassed.
Look for the date code for one that is a year or 2 old, I believe if it is not stamped on it there is a stick on decal indicating it is a Blackstone.

My radiator will be 21 years old come July. Might change it out with a Nissen's before then because an old radiator has to fail sometime.

quality costs more on the front end - don't see getting 21 more years from the rest of the rust.
