Engine won't turn over. (1990 760GLE - V6 - 198k) 700

Hi,

All of a sudden, my faithful 760 won't turn start :(

When I turn the switch all the dash lights come on. I move the switch to start and I hear a click but the engine won't turn over. The battery seems to be good (bright lights). A few days ago I took the car to a volvo shop (not dealer) to get a rear seal leak fixed. They also changed the shifter bushings. Could they have left something loose that came undone after a week or so? It behaves as though I'm trying to start the car while not in Park. What all could I check before I call them back? I'm always reluctant to take the car into the shop, because something else always goes wrong! Thanks for all the advice.

Max

I have several post about my 90 740 GL REX 201K.

The last time I had a no start problems, it was itermittent, the engine would most of the time turn, burn not catch. It ended up being a combo of RSR relay in the engine. Easy to resolder, and RPM sensor, easy to replace($45, aftermarket), and reseating knock sensor, and finally, I thoughroughly cleaned injectors(may not have been at all related).

However, I think your problem was my first no start problem about 1 1/2 year ago. Check, and resolder your FI Relay, or purchase one online. I got ripped off because I didn't know about the bricks, and took it in, they claimed they replaced the Internal fuel pump, but now I don't think they did. If they did, I now don't believe it was necessary.

For you, try FI Relay, if NOGO, RSR Relay, If you can resolder them, do it any way. You probably don' have much more than that.

could be starter/solenoid or like Garg91t said a burned out wire.

i know what you mean about shops. i take mine in and they come back in worse shape. look for another shop if this is a regular occurance.

check fuses? 700 1991

Have you checked the fuses, the ones behind the radio face?
I had this same EXACT proublem before. It turned out to be that one of the wires burned out, and he offered to "hack" shall we say. The fuse board, and install something with a fuse in it so he wouldnt have to pull apart the dash board to get to that one wire. Check the radio relay, and any other burned out fuses first.
If something keeps going wrong with you volvo, stop taking it to that place.
They are proubly trying to shist you for all you have.
