Thought I was no newbee: valve clearances 120-130

Hi,
I came to wthe world 2 hours ago when leafing through the Haynes. I was reading the specs and sttings of the engine and found that the cold valve clearance for a B20B should be 0.057 inch (1.44 mm).
Now, I have always set them at 0.2 as said on the vlvworld.com website, not having any haynes around. Now that I'm in posession it, I'm pretty puzzled!

What's correct/works best for the B20??

Additionnally, could an unsufficient valve clearance give hot starting problems? Thanks, Séb

Thought I was no newbee: valve clearances 120-130

It's been awhile since I had a B20 in my shop, but aside from working on them for years I had two as daily drivers for years as well. I used to set them to the factory spec way back in the day until my shop foreman walked by and said "set them all at .020" hot, across the board". Being a long time B20 guy I took his advice and never looked back. That was on my current daily driver a '74 145, the difference out of the hole was phenomenal. Set them at .020", not.2

Nonononono... that's the valve clearance for checking cam timing when building a motor, not the final clearance the motor runs at.

Hot starting problems are usually because the carbs are set too rich at idle.
