high revving on start and then a rough idle....ideas? 200 1986

i posted a message a week ago or so about an irratic idle...well i cleaned out the TB and put on a new gasket with no improvement. for those just now hearing about this i've replaced intank pump, fuel filter, air filter, flame trap, plugs, cap, rotor, o2 sensor, and i've checked the AMM..its still good. I've also done the throttle switch check and all is working properly. When i start the car it revs up really high to almost 3k rpms just for a second, then drops to about 1500 and finally drops down to the 850/900 that i should be after about 2 minutes. there is always an irratic idle as well, not very smooth at all. This just seems really strange.. maybe a leaky injector? intake gasket leak? i've looked for leaks around the manifold but havent found anything. This is driving me nuts!! all ideas are welcome!! Thanks in advance

    I remember your post from last week....I just noticed you didn't mention the fuel pump relay. I had VERY simmilar issues (plus occasional turn over w/no start) and thought my fuel filter and maybe pump were toast. First I checked the fuel pump relay and found that water had gotten in durring a major rain storm and had rusted and corroded the connections. I didn't even have to replace it, just cleaned it off with some electrical cleaner and a copper brush. I plugged it in and started her up and all my issues were gone from there on out. Just thought it would be worth mentioning.

    When the car goes to 1500 RPM's take a piece of wood and tap the IAC undwer the intake.I cleaned my IAC checked the OHM's and put it back on the car.When I did all this the car would rev to about 1200 RPM's,when I taped the IAC with the wood block the idle would fall to 800 RPM's

      i think this may be it, how did you go about cleaning it? did you remove the whole intake to do it? i dont mind doing that, just wondering.. and what did you use to clean it? Thanks!!

        You can remove it with very little problem. One nut 10MM and the elecyral connector. Remove the whole unit hose and the IAC.When you get it out mark the hoes on the realinement.I used brake cleaner and the FAQ's guided me on what to do.Don't take the IAC apart just clean the inside valve.Do a OHM's check on the valve also it is in the FAQ's also
