Noisy Throwout Bearing Lubricate??? 200 1988

A few days ago my throwout bearing started making noise(only hear noise when clutch is engaged). Replaced tranny, clutch, etc. 30K miles ago. Hate to go back in to replace bearing with only 30K on it. Haven't looked in clutch fork opening yet. Just wondering if it is possable to get a long neck oil can in and lub the throwout bearing?

I personally wouldn't try oiling it. There's too big a chance of getting oil on the clutch surface. If it does, you'll be changing the clutch again. The throwout on my 85 has been making noise about a year now. Sometimes it's loud, and sometimes it's quiet. I'm just trying to get as many miles as I can out of it before I change it and the clutch (kit). If it's a relatively new bearing, there is a good chance that It will quieten down over time, (there's also a remote chance that it'll freeze and cause big problems). Check the clutch cable adjustment to make sure it's not holding pressure on the throwout bearing when the pedal is released. I drive my car locally, so if it breaks, it's not a big problem, although I'm going out of town (fishing, 200 miles) this week and I'm driving this car. I'll get back (somehow), hopefully driving (not hauling) the old wagon. I'm just telling you what I would do. I've seen noisy throwout bearings last a long time and very few fail completely and cause breakdown. I've also never tried to oil one. Other people's experience will vary.

The throw out bearing squeal means that you will need a new one, sorry. My practice in the past was always replace the bearing whenever the plate is replaced.

You might get by just oiling it. Try a length of plastic tube on the oil can.
Don't use too much.
I replaced the clutch and bearing at 200,000 miles, and it started squealing after about 10,000 miles. I inject a few drops of oil down a bit of plastic tube, and it quietens down again. It has been doing it, intermittantly, for the last 120,000 miles. I'm waiting until it gets really bad, or the clutch needs replacing again.

Thanks Cliff. That is what I wanted to hear. This bearing only has 30,000 miles on it. Was hoping to get a few more miles out of it before replacing.

It could possibly be the pilot bearing howling. Don't ever replace a clutch and throw-out bearing without replacing the pilot bearing also. I don't know why they don't include them with the clutch plate / pressure plate / T-O bearing kits.

if the clutch is engaged, the throwout bearing isn't do anythign but sitting there. throw out bearings usually howl when the clutch is disengaged.

clutch engaged= pedal up
clutch disengaged= pedal down

just a clarification
