I found a CR-814 with "anti-theft" in a junkyard, and both the radio and cassette work. I will be transplanting it into a 86 740 that had an aftermarket radio/tape/cd in it when I bought it (and was ceremonially stolen the other day). Figured I'd replace it with a genuine VOLVO since nobody steals VOLVO radios, right? I also got the part of the harness that connects to the back of the radio, however it looks nothing like what was left of mine -- was there a harness adapter already there to allow the aftermarket (Jensen) unit to work in my VOLVO, or do I need to make another trip to the junkyard, or do I need to buy a complete harness to make it fit? Also I got the "trays" (the one that holds the radio, the compartment underneath it, and the ashtray as well (since they looked nicer than the ones in my car after the breakin)). Any thing to look out for to make for a nice fit? Thanks for any assistance, as me and electrical things don't often work well together.

N2V, whoever put the aftermarket radio in the car, changed the wiring harness, so you will have to find another one to rewire the orignal back in; also, check to see if your radio requires an amplifier (it probally will, if you have front and rear speakers in your car)- if that's true, too, you will need to go back and get an original volvo amp out of a donor car, too; no other amp will work with volvo radios. If it will help you any, I have radio wiring diagrams for a 90 740, but it should work for your year, too- at least, it's a start to get an idea of how to put the original back in. Send me your email address to mrnorris@hotmail.com,if you want the diagrams.
