OIL COOLER - TRANS COOLER PRO'S AND CONS 200

Has anyone added a trans cooler or oil cooler to a non tubo 240? any pros or cons? does anyone know if the oil cooler from a turbo 240 set up will work? it sure looks like a direct fit. i don't plan on towing anything but i do want my car to go the distance. any help would be great thanks everyone!

OIL COOLER - TRANS COOLER PRO'S AND CONS 200

I have added trans coolers but don't know about the oil cooler...quite a few years ago I had a trans overhauled and the guy that did it HIGHLY recomended them on anything...I have added one to almost every vehicle since...things run cooler...can't coment on it actually making them last longer...I either don't keep them very long or ...of course.. they may have lasted that long anyway...

OIL COOLER - TRANS COOLER PRO'S AND CONS 200

I'm not sure if the oil cooler from a 240 turbo bolts right on, you might need a longer stud for the oil filter, otherwise yes. However, I think that it would be very unnecessary on a NA car. The oil thermostat starts to open at 165 and is fully open at 190. I'm not even sure if it woudl have to open. If you want to monitor oil temps, there is a really cool factory oil temperature gauge. I just installed mine on my 83 244Ti. Should be interesting to monitor.

With tranny coolers....... what year 240 do you have?? Every automatic I have ever seen has come with a stock tranny cooler built into the radiator!!

Search archives for discussion of tranny failure due to radiator failure causing ingress of coolant to tranny.

I had a tranny cooler installed on my NA 240 wagon about 8 months ago along with new Blackstone Radiator. Some additional plumbing and peace of mind for longevity of the AW70. Whilst I don't do any towing I have noticed the temp guage stays at or below 9 O'Clock on fully-laden family holiday trips, whereas prior to new rad/tranny cooler it would creep up to 10 O'Clock going uphills with a load...Others may tell you AW70's are plentiful enough and so spend your money elsewhere. Can't comment on oil cooler from turbo 240. And no my temp comp board hasn't been bypassed yet!

All the best with your decision.
