1995 volvo 940 seats in a 1984 242? 200

Does anybody know if these will fit?
Front seats from a 1995 volvo 940 4 door sedan into a 1984 242 sedan?
Thanks

It would be cool if they did huh? Unfortunately they are completey different beasts. The 240's more or less bolt down flat to the floor. The 940/700 seats have these damn mushroom headed pins that are the bane of anyone who has ever pulled one of those seats. Even if you sawed those darn things off I have no doubt that the bolt pattern is entirely different. Furthermore the 240 uses bolts in the rear and nuts in the front and the 700/900 use 4 bolts of 2 different sizes. So other than that, yeah you betcha they'll drop right in.

It's been done before. Someone with a 164 (160 front end attached to a 245 body) put 940 seats in the 240 body. His website is here, but I can't reach it at the moment. It definitely took him a lot of work and dedication to get it done. I don't think it's a project that many would want to attempt, but if you do, make sure you detail the process here!

WOW!! that was definitely worth looking at. I'm gonna say that someone has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands. From what I can read he put a leather interior from a 240 Turbo in it but at this point, so what! I'm sure that he could've put whatever he wanted in it.

Well, I'm the guy..:-). Haven't got that much time, though - I just can't resist trying new mods.

And yes, I started with a regular 240T interior but had to try the 960 power seat setup (described at a subpage, scroll down the news section and you'll find the link) when I found a decent pair in the right colour. I however have got a set of 855 seats (front and rear) waiting in the garage...now that's a challenge.

The original poster btw could adapt 900 seats the same way I did. But if he intends to use the rear seat, maybe he should look at 780 or C70 front seats instead.

How about seats from a V70 wagon? My junk yard has a set in grey leather just sitting there waiting to be taken. I see them on my weekly trip and probably spend 10 min on each trip looking at them and thinking about it.

If I can build up the metal beneath my seats I could just drill in new bolt holes, but is that the only option?

I assume you're talking about an old style V70? Seats/mountings are basically the same as 850. Haven't started my conversion yet but front seats seem to be a better fit in the 240 than 900 series seats. The frame/rail design make the entire seat sit a bit lower and rail spacing looks more narrow - that's really good news.

I prefer modifying the seat frame to use original 240 mounts instead of going into the car body with the welder but I can't see this job being more difficult than adapting 900 seats. Consider the special arrangements with airbags and belt tensioners, though.

Rear seat is a different story. The wider seat will require modifications of the inner fender and some ambitious work with all mounting points. I'll update my site when the job is completed but I'm pretty sure this is not going to happen in close future :-(.

Thanks!

Go for a 164, seems like it would cover a gap in your collection :-).
