140 vacuum controls for heat and ventilation 140-160 1973

Hi,
I'm replacing the non-functional fan on my 142. No probs other than the time - I followed the destructive method as described for the 240 and it all seemed to go well. My parts car 1974 144 fan worked and fitted

BUT... I tested the vacuum controls with my Mitivac and most of them held vacuum to a reasonable extent, but the heater control was just hopeless. Leaked like a sieve and just wouldn't hold vacuum. Is this fixable or am I in for a visit to Volvo Cental for a new part? Is it possible to retrofit the later model cable controled valve? Looked a bit major to me, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

All help gratefully received, as always

JohnH

I have the cable operated valve in the '74, and it's not temp sensitive, so I'm always adjusting it. Seems like there was a temp sensor built into the '73, maybe more even heat. I also put in a 240 style lever instead of the knob, it's easier to see where the setting is.
