Sunroof Seals 200

It's been far too long since I pulled the sunroof seals out of my project car. I've part numbers 3540456-5 and 1255335-0 which purport to be the replacement seals. However - I can't fingure out how they are to be installed.

Anybody with some clues?

Thanks,
Dave

First you need a quality contact glue. I've used the 3M product made for installing side trim--sometimes referred to as "monkey snot" by mechanics in my circle of friends :-) (it's yellow and very messy). The shorter piece gets glued to the rear opening of the sunroof (on the roof itself)--you sort of have to angle it down at the ends. The longer piece goes around the sides and front face of the sunroof panel--that requires removing the panel altogether. Follow the directions on the contact cement -- a small flat & stiff artist's brush is a good tool to spread the cement evenly--you may need a few to do the two separate steps of glue curing / installation. Keep a solvent handy to clean up over-use right away. Place the seals so the round bead is partially above the roof line--if you set it too low the panel may not close all the way. -- Dave

In thinking about what I wrote - I may have gotten that backwards--with the short piece to the front on the body and the long piece around the rear and sides of the panel. I don't have a car around with a factory roof so I can't confirm that. It should be obvious because there has to be a flat surface on which to glue the seal. Maybe someone else can confirm the locations. -- Dave

The short section goes to the rear. The long section winds around from side to front to side.

The OEM 200 moon roof seal is made of a flexible nylon body with a felt-flocking covered body. It is not the preformed metal strip like factory. I replaced the seal in my 1992 240 green verdigris GL and the black felt-flocking has worn off the top, where nothing touches it save for air, sunlight, and precipitation.

I used a type of 3M adhesive. It held up okay but I had to reapply it as the adhesive failed along sections. I clean all surfaces with brake parts clean so they were, I guess, as clean as could be.

        Hope that helps.

Go to page 846-847 to see the parts diagram.
Looks like 1255335-0 is the back one and that 3540456-5 is the front one

I'm about to install a new front seal in my 240's sunroof. I have part# 3540456. Guess I'm about to find out if it is the right one! :)
