Overdrive switch cut-out location 140-160 1972

I finally have installed the proper factory stalk switch for the overdrive on my '72 144. It's nice to have the correct switch instead of a generic toggle switch...the beauty is in the details!

My question is how did the factory cut out the top half of the steering column cover for the directional switch stalk and the overdrive switch stalk? At least one of them would have to have been notched open on the bottom to be able to slide the cover over the two switches at the same time. I know the column mounted automatic cars had a circle cut out for the column shift and a notch cut out on the directional stalk side, and suspect that the overdrive equipped cars were similar.

I could cut it many different ways and it would still work, but I really want it to look like a factory installation.

Can anyone help? Maybe post a photo?
Thanks

      Thanks Matt,
Just the opposite of what I expected though! My column mounted automatic 145 had the notch on the left (directional switch) side.
Time to break out the dremell and shave away.
      I appreciate the help.
Off topic...do you drive that 120? A neighbor of mine used to race those. Interesting to hear stories of early SCCA racing in those Jags.

Overdrive notch on the directional side? For an auto? Im confused... you do have a LHD car, no? The overdrive switch is always opposite the turn indicator switch... Down is on, up is off...

As for the 120.. yes, I do drive it. It scares me to think of folks racing them though. It is fast, but its a handful... A week ago I brought it up to my remote home and... well... it started to snow. This is how it looks now...

I'll clarify, left hand drive car; What I meant was, the cowling for the automatic car has just a hole on the right side. There is a square hole on the left side for the directional switch with a notch at the bottom so the piece can be slipped on over the left stalk.

In other words, you would have to slide it down over the column shifter first and then "drop" it over the directional stalk. Your photo shows that the cowl would have to be slid over the directional stalk first and then "dropped" over the overdrive stalk.

Sounds like I'm the one who needs the camera!

120 looks great even when wearing a white overcoat.

Oh... yea. I see what you are saying. My '70 wagon was originally an auto. Some differences there for sure...

To be honest, I'm not totally certain that this one is stock, but I'm pretty sure it is, as every 140 or 160 I've ever had with overdrive had it from the factory...and this came off one of 'em.

I keep seeing your post here, and keep feeling guilty for not bringing my factory surround to the same place I keep my camera... I'll try again today to remember.... (I reckon this reply might help my memory)

      Not worth feeling guilty about!

I recently obtained the factory bracket. Glad I waited as I don't think I could have bent up a piece of steel on my own and get the switch in the proper place at the same time.

I put the shroud from a column shift automatic on there for now and it fits but the hole is huge. Anyway, if you get around to it sometime, thanks.
