I just bought a B20 out of a '75 242 for about $ 50,- I'm rather pleased with it since I now have:
-a late 8-bolt block
-a late carb head with 44 mm intakes
-a 'rare as hens teeth' bellhousing to mate the M45 (or M46/M47) to a B20
-an aluminium dizzy (in europe a stock B20 dizzy is cast iron like the B18)
-a partly aluminum starter
-a nice alternator
-a nice fuel pump
-a M45 gearbox
-a combi manifold including a single stromberg
-a 5 blade fan
Cool huh?

Cheers, Ben

Nice! Was the bell housing with it (M45/6+B20 in a '75)?

Yup, which I think was my main reason of buying it.

What part of the starter is aluminum? Looks like all of mine, cast arn
and steel.

I've seen aluminum backed starters... I think only the latest ones. perhaps '74 and '75. just the back I think, but perhaps the gear surround is aluminum too... have to check that.
Good score on that engine! Bellhousing alone makes it all worth it... did '75s have electronic ignition in your part of the world?

Yep, the 'gear surround' is aluminium, the actual housing is iron. Never seen it before though. And like you say: the bellhousing is so rare it alone makes the purchase worth it. Unfortunately the '75 B20 over here never got the electronic ignitions. Too bad aye?

I think I see a condensor hanging on the side.
None the less, nice score! Won't a 'real' 5 speed hook onto that bellhousing?
I'll give you $51 for it! ;^)

You mean the M47: Yep they do. However, the M47 is junk imo. I've allready got one hooked onto the B20 in my daily driver. It's crap. The M46 (OD) would make a much better choise and can handle more hp (not as if the B20 would ever trash it, but still...)

Cool. What are you going to do with it?

What are you going to do with it?
How about building a second MPPE and fit a nice M46 behind it?
The guy where I bought it from had a engine stand, where we hoisted the engine (less gearbox) in the trunk of my 2 doors amazon. Once at home, I stripped the engine to cut down the weight, so I could manouvre it out by hand. That ment stripping the alternator, starter, flywheel, manifold and head. I now could look into the cilinders: looking pretty ok actually. Perhaps I could just run the bottom end as-is (its supposed to have run 130k miles). The head did not look that nice, the exhaust valves have worn out the head completely: seat recession varied between 3 and 5 mm's (!). The intakes (44 mm, yeah) all look alike, but I fear they have some seat recession aswell. Will take those out tomorrow. Did you know the combustion chamber is also 92 mm like the E/F heads?
I think I might use this head for my current daily driver B20. Have to fit (hardened) valve seats anyway if I want to use it, so I might aswell go a bigger size, shave it for higher compression and tinker around with it some more... Yummy!

It should have 92mm chambers, and 44/35 valves.

92mm, and 44/35 it is. I was thinking going 44/38.5 on the rebuild though.
