J type OD rebuild parts 1800

I am having an anoying problem with my 73 M41/Jtype combo. The OD refuses to disengage. I have checked the electrical system and all is fine. If I accelerate hard it will "jump" out of OD until I relase the gas pedal. I looked for a seal kit but IPD does not sell one for this OD. Do I require a specific seal(s) or is a complete rebuild in order. Where can I purchace a rebuild kit?

Thanks all

J type OD rebuild parts 1800

I'm no OD expert, but have done a seal rebuild sucessfuly on one. I don't think the seal rebuild will help you. That job is meant to fix engage failures, not the failure to disengage.

And BTW, my older Haynes says you should never back up with the OD engaged, as expensive damage may result.

The Haynes mentions possible sticking control valve or sticking 1-way clutch, and to make sure an electrical fault is not keeping the solenoid energized.

J type OD rebuild parts 1800

The J type from 73 is similar to all the J type that folowed up until they went to the P type. Somewhere in late 79 the actuating pistons were changed.

A reseal kit for any J type will work along with a set of new pistons.

See the FAQ's for the 700-900, under M46 OD rebuild. Same OD, similar work and effort.
