Where Is Rear Foglight Connector? 200

I have a Bentley and it is little more than adequate, especially with regard to the electrical system. The reproduction of the schematics is very poor with more than a few of the elements being illegible. Thank goodness that the 240 evolved so predictably it allows me to fumble through the schemes for various years until I can decipher whatever I need. The one area in which the Bentley is seriously deficient is in showing the locations of the various wiring connectors. Often times, this is the whole enchilada when trouble-shooting an aging electrical system.

Now that I have gotten that off my chest, I do have a question:

Does anyone know where the connector which is the common point for the rear foglight conductors in a sedan (1993, should it matter) is located? This bit of information might save me from doing nasty things to the wiring loom in the trunk.

Thanks to one and all,
Rich

Where Is Rear Foglight Connector? 200

All I can tell you is what I know about from my 1988 244 GL.

There is a connector on each of the tail ights. The harness connected to the left tail light contains all the wires for left and right side lights.

On the foil of the left tail light two of the contacts are double width. These are for the back-up lights and fog lights. On that double width spot are two connections, one from the front of the car, the other going to the right side tail light connector.

Thus there is no separate connector for the fog lights.

At some year after 1988 Volvo discontinued having two rear fog lights.

The harness to the left tail light from the front runs from a 9-pin connector that is located above the driver's left toe. It may be tucked down inside the wire channel that is there under the carpet.

That location is shown pretty clearly in the Volvo SErvice Manual Wiring Diagrams for 240 1987-88. If you intend to keep the car and do some of your own work, I highly recommend that book for your year. It contains the diagrams, using black, red and pink colors, that are copied into Haynes and Bentley.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

    Let's not blame Bentley 200

I've had questions like yours many times myself. But those diagrams are direct copies from fold-out summary diagrams in the Volvo wiring "green books". Some of those Volvo diagrams (I have the book for '87-'88) are pink-tinted, which may account for the blotchy reproductions in Bentley.

But AFAIK, not even the Volvo manuals identify the location of the in-line connector symbols shown in the diagrams.

Regarding your question, such a symbol is shown on p390-63 (Grid G-3), in line from the FL switch (128) and then branching to each taillight connector 147/7 (left) and 146/1 (right) for the two foglights (127). But it's Volvo who keeps that common connector's location a secret, not Bentley. If you ever find it, let us know, and that will be one at least.
