Reverse = 0rpm - 164 140-160 1975

OK, what did I do wrong? After playing around with the idle adjustment screw to get the rpm down to 800 when warm, it starts at 50 rpm and very slowly increases to 800. So I gave up and unscrewed it so it will now start, but idle at 1500rpm.
Yesterday I took out the instrument cluster, placed the bulb for the EGR into the empty bulb out indicator (there is no EGR system on this car any more), and found a 3 prong turn signal relay which needs to be 4 prong so that my dash turn indicators will work.
Problem:
This morning I warmed up the car to go to the parts store. Put the car in Reverse and it immediately died. Drive was OK, but the idle dropped to about 100. I found out that I can hit the starter while in reverse and the car will back up, not a good thing. The tranny fluid was about 1 quart low, added that much and it still dies. Is there an electrical compensator/relay that I messed up? Car ran good until I messed with the dash. I feel like a total dummy, which I probqbly am.

Thanks,

Klaus

Still no reverse - 164 140-160 1975

Back up lights come on when they are supposed to. The started inhibitor switch will be investigated this afternoon when I crawl under the car. I can't find anything under the dash that appears to be a problem.

The REAL problem is the stall when it goes into reverse. Reverse gear is engaged and there is no clutch slippage? BW35's are supposed to be able to be push started, I had heard somewhere. When engaging drive, RPM drops to about 100 but at least it still runs.

100 rpm? How can the engine still be running that low? Usually anything under 600 or so is just about dead, I think the starter cranks it faster than 100 rpm.

6cyl. Now that I looked closely (with my reading glasses on) there is a small white line just above the 0rpm line, guess that is the 500 mark. Guess it idles at 550rmp in drive. Low enough.
The real question is being restated in another post.
