1987 760 sedan Antenna issue 700 1987

I broke the mast on my '87 760 sedan in the car wash several montsh ago. I finally got around to getting a new mast but now I think my anetnna motor may be out.

Any suggestions on how I can test the motor?

I don't hear the usual clicking in the trunk when I turn the radio on and off.

Thanks!

This might sopund a little simplistic, but have you made certain theat the switch in the dash is on? I just had a friend over who had problems with his, and it turned out that his son was playing with the switch, so...

You can run a 12v jumper to the motor lead and test it that way.

    Regards,

      Will-

I never suspected my two younger co-pilots but you were ABSOLUTELY right. I had noticed that my fog lights, seat warmers, etc . . . were on the other day and I thought that was odd. I never thought to check the antenna switch given that I had a broken mast at the time.

My two co-pilots confessed to playing with the cockpit controls and we all got a big laugh out of it. The new mast is in and I can now listen to the A's games in my car. Thanks for being so polite in giving your expert advice to this clueless mechanic. LOL

      -Mike

        Hi Mike,

        Glad to help!

I'm afraid that I cannot take the credit for knowing that much. It took me two weeks after installing an antenna on the 760 when I first started working on it to find the switch to begin with! I think it was something like "Honey, what is this switch that looks like a guy with his arms raised? Oh..."

        Kindest Regards,
