oil return pipe form breather box..what happens if... 900

ok we all know the dire warnings about not pulling this out when cleaning the breather...

but what would the symptoms be of (a) it having being pulled out, stuck back in but NOT located in the clamp in the sump - e.g. not below the oil level in the sump...(b) it being restricted/blocked...

anyone KNOW oir even like to hazard a guess

Is it supposed to be below the oil level??? If it was below the oil level how would fumes be drawn up out of the crankcase through the oil separator (AKA breather box) through the flame trap and into the throttle body to be burned?

the fumes exit into the breather box higher up the block...i am talkign about the return pipe where the seperated oil returns to the sump... (the hole to the front of the block with the black rubber tube in it rather than the hole towards the rear of the block...)

Considering it is just a drain pipe, and that, as Steve notes, it could gum up rotating parts if not attached, were mine removed, I would toss it, replace it with an o-ring, and let the box drain directly into the block.

Oh yeah, I did just that about 5 years ago, nothing bad has happened yet.

ok..so what we are saying is there is no way you can get blowby passing back up the pipe preventing the oil draining thus leading to enhanced consumption..

        I wouldn't think so.

see im thinking like this...if a presurised sump can stop oil draining from teh turbo return line (which is a whole lot bigger than this little schnitzle)...and the hose had become detached/holed whatever..could that presure stop the oil draining out of the seperator...thus forcing it to go with the air flow...

basically im wondering if it could negate the whole idea of seperation

sorry im explaining it badly...but basically im saying if its below the oil then you wount get airflow thru it, if its above it you COULD...and this might blow the draining oil back up it atomizing it and thus sending it straight into the intake system...

dunno seems to make sense in a weird norse way!
