Possibly buying '89 740 Turbo wagon 700 1989

I already have an '86 244 and '87 245 (Boy - I now know rotting harness)

What should I be looking for in a Turbo 740 (5 speed) that I wouldn't normally be looking at in a 240?

Thanks

Motor mounts and timing belt. Turbos usually start acting up around 175k miles. If you can, run it up a long hill to keep the boost up 10-15 seconds. See if the turbo keeps pumping or starts sticking. There's been a rash of blown turbo head gaskets on the "board" lately. Don't know if a compression check would fortell this because they usually let go suddenly between the cylinders. Check closely for oil seepage from between the head and block.

Interesting you mention: "Check closely for oil seepage from between the head and block."

I've posted about this before (here).

Is it common in you experience.

It's always been my experience that head gaskets aren't supposed to leak. Unless, of course, you're driving an old British something-or-other. Not that I dislike Brit cars. My first was a Rapier. But if your head gasket is leaking then it's probably warped and needs removal and resurfacing. Retorqueing the head probably is a waste of time.
