control arms and trailing arm differences? 200 1988

Hello all

I have a 1988 245 wagon. I replaced the TAB's some time back, and attempted to replace the rest of the rear bushings. The trailing arms appeared to start breaking so I aborted the install. Because this car is used for work, I can not afford to have it out of commission.

Are the control arms, trailing arms and torqe rods different between the years of 240's? Or are these parts matched to the car?

My idea is to go to the junkyard get the above items, clean them up and install the bushings when i get the chance. Then I would spend an afternoon bolting the finished components into the car.

Is this doable? Thanks in advance.

Joe

Breaking? How? You did put a spacer in between the two sides right?

Yes I did have spacers but they were inefective. the sheet metel looked like it may seperate at the weld. I did not have a good press at the time but now I have access to one. The catch is I may have to be "sneeky" to use it. In other words it could take a few days.

Thanks for the reply

Joe

Control arms and trailing arms are the same throughout. Torque rod changed in the early 80's to accommodate larger bushings.

Is this doable?
If you have access to a shop press. 20 ton seems to be the preferred minimum.

Thanks for the info. I did the job on a 78 and I do remember the torqe rod bushings were "dogbone" shaped and these are round. I have limited access to a huge powered press at the shop my father in law works at. It will require some sneeking around to get to it tho.

If I get the peices from a junker, I can sneek in and do one every day. Maintain a low profile.

Thanks for reply

Joe
