I just joined the site this week after seeing the article in the NY Times a few weeks ago.

My '87 760 Turbo with automatic trans has had a dull intermittent glow from the overdrive dash light for sometime. I just ignored it.

This week it stayed on bright all the time and depressing the gear shift overdrive switch did nothing to cure the light problem. I also noticed that my tranny would not proceed past third gear and the overdrive dash light remained a bright beacon of warning.

I read the many helpful posts here and first checked the fuse. Checked ok. Then I checked the relay and saw some aged soldering. After a quick 30 second solder I replaced the relay and all is ok.

I'd bet if you checked your other relays you'd find more of the same, when I pulled my fuel pump relay there were three badly cracked joints. I was amazed the pumps ran at all. Since soldering the pumps run much better; also I cleaned the contacts by scraping them with a small screwdriver. The points are relatively soft and cleaned up perfectly. Just like new for free, ya gotta love it.

Sounds like it might be the overdrive relay failing... check the FAQ (located at the top of the page under FEATURES) and the procedures are outlined for troubleshooting there. Fix it as soon as possible... with gas prices the way they are, a failed overdrive equals mucho $$$.
