Rubber 'F' Pipe in Pulsair System Broke...? 900

I should have figured this would have become a problem when I bought the car.
The "F" shapped rubber pipe forming an important part of the Pulsair system was repaired before I bought this car. There was high-temp silcone smeared all over it, but it appeared solid and functioned properly.

Well, today I was replacing the thermostat in my 1995 940 (B230FD) and in moving the various hoses around to get to the thermostat, the rubber F-tube came apart with no resistance whatsoever. Makes me think that it may have been leaking for some time. Also makes me wonder if it has something to do with my lower than-proper mileage (?)

Anyway, the lcoal autoparts store doesn't have it (carquest) and I can't find the stupid thing listed at any of the Parts Dealers I visit (FCPG, VLVW, eBay). Parts guys tell me that it's a dealer item, so I fear just how much $$$ this stupid little hose gonna cost me?

So ideas on sources, estimates on the cost of this stupid little hose? Warnings about how this thing can destroy my nice volvo right before my 1.600 mile road trip?

Rubber 'F' Pipe in Pulsair System Broke...? 900

If the rubber hose is cracked, chances are one of the pulsair valves are bad.

I paid too much from Swedish E, $72 for a new hose and valve. sped, in a not too old post, said that the same is available from AC-Delco for $27 total.

Rubber 'F' Pipe in Pulsair System Broke...? 900

Hi,

I too have a split in one of those hoses in the"F-connector" of my Pulsair system. Can you tell me which is the valve that usually goes.....is it one of the two metal looking ones or is it that top black one with the greenish hose coming out of it? I notice beneath the split in the hose attached to one of the metal connectors there appears some black scoring from exhaust leaking through?

Thanks for you input.

Dave DeCoste

That's good to know, but I've had zero luck in finding this part using google or any of the good volvo parts suppliers. I cannot find the thread you mentioned either. Help!

The F-pipe was repaired prior to my purchase with silicone. I think it's just as likely failed due to a jury-rigged repair than as due to a failed valve. BUt sources for the AC Delco replacements would be helpful. Google is being useless tonight.

The note I made from sped is “visit your local AC Delco supplier”. Some auto stores supply AC Delco parts. I believe AC Delco is still GM therefore a GM dealer’s parts counter can also supply the parts or the part numbers. Check the pulsair valve per the FAQ to make sure it is operating properly.

Temp Fix Made 900

Thanks, I wasn't sure what you were referrring to abour AC Delco, I couldn't locate the post. As Fred suggested, I was able to get a 3/4" rubber heater hose and a T connector for Carquest. Cost about $12.00. Works, but it puts the vale a bit close to the oil cap. The local Volvo dealer has replacement tubes for $40.00 and I may pick one up to keep the heat away from my valve. I'll check the pulsair valves once the car is cool.

Thanks for the info!

Rubber 'F' Pipe in Pulsair System Broke...? 900 1994

WELL TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT WHILE AT HOME ON A WORK RELATED INJURY AND ON WORKERS COMP THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. BEING BROKE I WENT TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND FOUND A U SHAPED 1/2 INCH HEATER HOSE AND CUT IT IN HALF AND USED A THREE WAY HEATER JOINT IN AND IT WORKS JUST AWESOME WITH NO LEAKS OR KINKS FOR ABOUT 7 DOLLARS. SO THE HOSES JOIN AT THE MIDDLE AND THE THIRD OUTLET RUNS TO THE AIRBOX.
GOOD LUCK
