142 goes in tomorrow... 140-160

Too early at 8am to one of my shops for a leakdown test. I'll letcha all know how it turns out. My previous exageration of my oil consumption was a bit more of an exageration than I thought. I'd say I use a quart in 1k or 1.5k miles. No where near as bad as every 500 miles. And about gas mileage, I thought I got worse than I actually do, but I have been forgetting to account for the fact that my odometer reads 4.6miles per 5 miles, and that's even with tires that are SMALLER than stock. So, for example, on my last tank, which included me idling around in traffic for the better part of 2 hours, highway speeds(65-80mph), and maybe 10 minutes or so of fun stuff, I got 21.6 mpg. Not bad at all IMO for the situation. If I had an OD I'm sure I'd be capable of getting something along the lines of 26+mpg on the highway. That'd be awesome. I'll save that job for the wagon though... Even though I want it(mpg) right now...

So for today and tomorrow, I hope to get the electric fan installed, the Momo steering wheel installed, my tranny fluid changed to Redline MT-90, (I put redline oil in the rear end on saturday morning, I like it!). I might do some body work as well and get the new rear taillights cleaned up and put in as well. I got a new hood for those of you that haven't seen it yet also. I probably won't get around to painting it quite yet, but I'll be painting the trim for front turn signals and maybe other areas of the car. OH, and I might get around to porting my extra SU manifold. I won't install it until after I either swap heads, or get the valve guides replaced, or know for sure that I'm just going to leave it as it is(most likely what is going to happen, especially if I'm just going to be driving the 145 around until the 142 gets more beastlike... ;D)

Pictures will come!

Results... :^( 140-160

Well... First through third cylinders were solid, no leaking. Fourth... Another story, leaking 40%. Not good. Past the rings supposedly. When I originally was doing compression tests back when I first got the motor, I was getting lower numbers for the rear cylinder also. For example, my highest numbers the last time I checked it, I had 180 180 180 165psi front to back. I'll check it again soon here to see what it says now. Maybe this has something to do with why my car doesn't like running under 3krpm :^).

Anywho, that's kind of disappointing, but at the same time, it tells me that my car is/would be that much more powerful.

I changed the tranny fluid yesterday, getting the shifter back into the tranny took me WAY too long though. I took it out with the car in reverse, so it was a "bit" tougher than if it was in neutral. I finally got the car out of reverse with a screwdriver, and then it just dropped right in. I cleaned up my new Red/White/Red taillights and installed them, looks great! I will be test fitting my Momo wheel later today, I think with the 240 hub it will be a bit closer to me than the current wheel is(too much closer...). If it is too much closer, I'll look into grinding off a portion that sticks out if it'll make any difference. I'll do a little trim painting too, and maybe some other painting, we'll see how far I progress.

Peace!

If you are concerned about costs, debt, etc it looks like you would hold off
on nonessentials like MOMO and redline.
I've seen diffs out of cars with 300K+ that had never seen anything but the
initial fill of 90W gear oil that were barely discernible for wear.

With the Redline, I wanted to change the tranny and rear end fluid anyway because I haven't done it yet other than the initial fill on my "new" tranny and "new" rear end, and I'm hoping that the Redline fluids will provide a half of a horsepower for the dyno. My friend was getting some at the time too, so we got to split the shipping costs.

The steering wheel... I got a deal on it I couldn't pass up ($40 for something that normally would be $100+) I know, I'm bad...

If you're concerned about debt and the like... just don't do what I did. I was in about as deep as you are when I plunked down $8500 on credit for a basket case Jaguar XK120...

Just got outta that a couple years ago and managed to keep the car. But including interest, I've surely got way more than its worth invested... bad idea.

But I'd probably do it again :-)

Yeah, my friend was in debt from not having a job for a while, a lot worse than I he says... But he's been buying concert tickets(U2 and other populars) on his credit card, and then selling them on ebay, usually making double/triple his money... If not doing that well, he usually breaks even, and I think only once out of 20+ pairs of tickets listed has he lost money... I need to get in on this... Might soon with the Paul McCartney shows coming soon...
