1993 240 Charcoal Canister 200 1993

Hey all. Quick question. I've got a 93' 240 with 178k. Filled it up the tank other day with gas (very nice getting out of there while three SUV mom's read their books while waiting). Anyhow, after getting home and after the car sat in the hot sun for 10 minutes, I noticed a gas smell and discovered a very slight fuel drip from the charcoal canister? I never seen that before on any of my three other 240s. I thought it had something to do with the fill up. I took the car for a 10 minute ride and came home and no drips? I'm guessing it's time to replace the canister? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Rob

Your OK. You just put too much cold gasoline in your car, and when the temperature went up, it expanded and filled you canister. You did the right thing by driving it around a little. The charcoal canister is OK and does not need replacing, it is made just for that purpose, just not that much gasoline at once.
When the pump handle clicks off at the pump, don't add more. Unless you are going to drive for at least 30 more minutes, it is wasted.

Klaus: That's great! Thanks for the info. Yep, you hit dead on the money. I filled it up in the morning, 0900, for a return trip from Jersey (they don't allow self-serve in the Garden State -- I should have realized by the clicking pump the guy was trying to get every last dime in there.) By the time I had the kids packed and ready to go, the temp was climbing 20 degrees. Thanks again, Rob
